Physical properties:
The relative density of polyvinylidene fluoride is 1.75~1.78, the glass transition temperature is -39ºC, brittle transition temperature is below -62ºC, the melting point is 144ºC, thermal decomposition temperature is above 320ºC. Long-term use temperature is -40~+125ºC, it is wide that the processing temperature range from the decomposition temperature to the melting point. The processing temperature is low, and melt viscosity is small, so it is easy for processing. The mechanical strength of PVDF is the most superior among Fluorine resin, and under certain temperature and pressure it can still maintain a good intensity. It has a high tensile strength, good impact strength and toughness, high hardness and abrasion resistance. Its Anti degeneration is also one of the optimal fluoride resins, loading in 9.8 Mpa, through 100h, the elongation in normal temperature is only 2.2%, 100ºC for 7%. PVDF has the characteristics of prominent anti-aging of UV and weather aging resistance, its products even stay outdoor 10 or 20 years, they will not be friable or split. Its radiation-resistant properties are more prominent, radiated by 3×108 lats r-ray irradiation, there is no serious decline in performance. And it has excellent insulation properties, dielectric constant (60~106Hz) reaches 6.0~8.0; its dielectric loss tangent is also large, between 0.04~0.2; its volume resistivity is a little lower, 3×1012Ω.cm,with piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties.
Chemical properties:
PVDF has a good chemical stability. It will not be corrupted by acid, alkali, strong oxidizing agent and halogen at room temperature; it will not be affect by ordinary organic solvents; it can only be swelling or partly dissolved by a handful of chemicals such as fuming sulfuric acid, alkali, ketones and ether; it can be dissolved into a colloidal solution by strong polar organic solvents such as dimethyl acetamide and Dimethyl Sulfoxide(DMSO). Moreover, its water absorption is only 0.03% in 80ºC; Its chlorine penetrability is the smallest among fluorine resins.
